Petition to Google: An Open Letter

Posted by Joanne G. Apat On August - 15 - 2010

Petition-to-Google-An-Open-LetterEarlier this month, news had circulated that Google proposed a deal which can violate Net Neutrality and may change Internet in certain ways.

As an Internet user, don’t let these powerful corporations get hold of the rein. Don’t let them take control. Take your stand and join the more than 300,000 others who signed up the petition letter for Google to back out on the deal. Let’s leave Internet as a fair-level playing ground for everyone.

Here’s the open letter to google:

Dear Google,

As a Google user, I am telling you, “Don’t be evil.” The deal between Google and Verizon is evil, because it threatens the open Internet, which hundreds of millions of people rely on every day. Live up to your founding motto, walk away from this deal and save the Internet.

Sincerely,

(Your name)

Google and Verizon Deal

Posted by Joanne G. Apat On August - 14 - 2010

Google-and-Verizon-DealTwo major Internet service providers, Verizon and Google, are working on an agreement allowing Verizon to expedite certain online contents considering that the contents’ creators will pay extra for the given privilege.

Youtube, for one, as owned by Google, can pay such additional charges ensuring high priority when it comes to its contents reaching to consumers. This is to say that the agreement can potentially increase costs for Internet users.

Other than this, it can also overthrow a particular aspect of Internet policy known as net neutrality. Net neutrality does not accord favoritism among net contents. It is this safeguarding principle that will be violated if the agreement between Google and Verizon will push through.

Violation of net neutrality is just one thing, upending the Federal Communications Commission (F.C.C.) efforts is another. In spite of the F.C.C.’s efforts to regulate broadband service, the court decided that F.C.C. has no enough authority to impose on an Internet service provider to slow down certain contents or applications, or refrain from favoring others. Since then, the F.C.C. has sought other means to enforce net neutrality. However, several Internet service providers, Congress, content producers and even cable companies have objected to the proposal.

On the other hand, as for the consumers part, common questions are how speedy they can access to these certain web applications and how Internet service providers can direct traffic to their system? Additionally, rising Internet bills may also be expected, the same way with cable subscriptions.

In general, this much talked-about Google-Verizon deal / agreement has triggered various infuriating reactions from consumers, thinking that such will dwell on corporations which then will take control of what has always been a free and open Internet system.

3 Tips to Overcoming Obstacles to An Online Business

Posted by Joanne G. Apat On August - 9 - 2010

3-Tips-to-Overcoming-Obstacles-to-An-Online-BusinessAn online business will provide one with earning opportunities beyond imagination. But money will not come that easily because one has to contend with the challenges that come along with this type of business. One can proceed in overcoming obstacles to an online business by making sure one has a marketable product, having a system to take care of orders, and driving traffic to his site. This article will explain how Internet business owners can address the challenges that they face.

Here are 3 tips to guide you in overcoming obstacles to an online business:

Tip No.1: Create a marketable product.

It is one thing to have a great product to sell; it is another thing to have a market for it. If nobody wants your product, no matter how amazing your product is—you will not achieve the sales figures you desire. In a matter of time, you will see that your sales expectations have not been realized. Sometimes, it is not about the quality of your product but whether there is demand for it.

When planning for your online business, and when planning for a product or service to sell over the Internet—you should first do research and surveys to find out what the market wants. This is a sure way of being able to create products and services that will sell like crazy in the Internet.

Tip No. 2: Establish a system that will automate the operations of your business.

Anyone who has studied excellent business models will agree that having a system to take care of operational activities will be the best way to go. This set-up will allow hassle free operations since you have automated the ordering process, payment steps and delivery system. With this, you will have more free time to concentrate on what matters most to your business such as your marketing efforts.

Tip No. 3: Drive traffic to your site.

Let us face it, without traffic, nobody will be able to see the products or services that you offer. It is like having a store, wherein nobody knows of its existence. Driving traffic to your site will allow you a chance to convert prospects into customers. The more quality traffic your website gets, the better it will be for your end to get more sales.

Overcoming obstacles to an online business is no joke. You need to strategize well. Start with creating a marketable product, then establish an operational system, and proceed to driving visitors to your site. These 3 tips will prove to be valuable to the success of your online business. Follow these, and increase your chances of online success.
